The owner of a century-old Glenboro home didn't have insurance, the fire chief told CTV News.

He called the fire a “historic loss” for the community. The home is believed to have been built in 1900.

The owner was away in Jamaica at the time of the fire.

It took four days for the embers to die down and the smoke to clear, said the fire chief.

The fire broke out in the basement of a Glenboro home last Saturday. A man sleeping inside managed to escape.

The home served as a hospital and seniors care home before it became a private residence.
