A grass fire encroaching on a home in West St. Paul Saturday had at least one woman on edge.

Marie Skrumeda told CTV News she could see trees on her property burning as smoke increased around her house.

The fire scorched about five acres in the area.

"I lost some fence posts and a lot of my trees were singed and that bothered me because my late husband and I planted them 40 years ago,” said Skrumeda.

Fire fighters were able to put out the grass fire. No one was hurt and the house was not damaged.

The fire risk continues to remain high in Manitoba.

The province has banned all motorized off-road and backcountry travel in southeastern Manitoba and cancelled all burning permits for eastern and central regions due to dry and windy conditions.
