Group attack in Exchange District sends man to hospital in critical condition

A man was taken to hospital after what Winnipeg police believe to be a group attack in the city’s Exchange District late Wednesday night.

Shortly before midnight on Jan.6, emergency crews responded to the 500 block of William Avenue for a report of an injured man.

Police said a 45-year-old man was found with serious injury to his upper body as a result of an assault.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he remains at this time.

Police believe the victim was assaulted by a group of individuals. The victim was later found by a passerby who contacted authorities.

The investigation is continuing by members of the major crimes unit.
