Wilfred Taillieu, the mayor of the Rural Municipality of Headingley, died Monday.

The RM posted about Taillieu’s death on its website.

“Wilf’s leadership and vision were instrumental in the transformation of Headingley from a forgotten area of Winnipeg, to a strong, progressive, fully serviced, independent municipality,” said the posting on the front page of the website.

‘Wilf’, as Taillieu is referred to in the posting, played a major role in the formation of Headingley, the RM said. Taillieu served the municipality from its incorporation as a municipality in 1992, until his death.

Taillieu was first elected as a councillor, and then became Reeve in 2000 – this position would eventually evolve and he became mayor.
