Winnipeg police are asking for the public’s help following a shooting that killed a man and injured a woman in the 500 block of Langside Street last week.

Officers believe the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

Police were called around 4 p.m. on April 2. A man and a woman were both found with gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to hospital in critical condition, but the 20-year-old man died from injuries. Police identified him as Nigel Dixon.

The woman was later upgraded to stable condition.

Police said the victims were walking in the Langside area when they were approached by suspects, who accused them of being gang members.

The victims said they weren’t gang members and walked away to avoid any further confrontation.

It’s believed the suspects followed the victims and fired at them as they tried to get away, said police.

Officers also think the incident was a case of mistaken identity as the victims are not affiliated with any gangs, said police.

There may have been other people in the area that saw the shooting or the suspects.

Homicide investigators ask anyone with information to call police at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
