A man charged with killing a woman at a Tuxedo Avenue residence had two probation orders not to have contact with her, police say.

Police charged Charley Harper, 29, with second-degree murder after his partner, Candace Monias, was found dead inside the Manitoba Housing complex on Nov. 26, 2015.

Harper had two previous court orders to stay away from Monias, stemming from domestic violence incidents in their home community of Garden Hill.

At the time of Monias’ death, the two had travelled to Winnipeg and were staying at the unit when they got into an argument. At some point, Monias suffered upper body injuries.

Paramedics were called, but pronounced Monias dead at the scene.

Police arrested Harper for violating his probation orders. An autopsy determined Monias died as a result of her injuries, and police arrested Harper again and charged him with murder.

He is being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
