Winnipeg police said a 31-year-old pedestrian has died from injuries after a collision on Oct. 26 in The Maples.

The vehicle struck the man around 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the intersection of Marbury Road and Mapleglen Drive, said police.

After going public for tips, officers previously announced they had recovered a Dodge Charger involved in the hit-and-run following over what appeared to be an argument over driving.

Police said the owner of that Charger was not the one operating it at the time of the collision.

Police said the vehicle was not reported stolen.  No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday, police said the man had died from injuries.

Police said occupants of a black, Infiniti G35 stopped and the 31-year-old passenger got out of vehicle in an attempt to speak with the driver of the Charger early Sunday.

That's when police say the driver of the Charger drove towards the man and struck the victim with the car at a high rate of speed.

Police said Monday the officers are still trying to determine what sparked the dispute between the two vehicles in the first place.

Const. Jason Michalyshen said both vehicles were travelling in the area and came into contact at an intersection. It appears the situation escalated from there.

“We had two vehicles and the occupants engaged in some sort of a dispute for whatever reason,” Michalyshen said.

“By no means are we criticizing the victim for stepping out of the vehicle, I don’t know what his intentions were.  But clearly the actions of the driver in the Charger were incredibly dangerous," said Michalyshen.

Lottie Penner lives in an apartment building near the scene of the collision. She said she heard commotion early Sunday but was too afraid to look outside.

Penner found out the next day what happened.

“It’s hard to believe people will go to those lengths when it concerns being behind a wheel,” Penner said.

The homicide unit is investigating the case in The Maples.
