Police have released the name of a man who died after a house fire on Aberdeen Avenue on Wednesday.

Members of the Winnipeg police Homicide Unit are now investigating.

Police identified the man as David Sanderson, 50. Firefighters pulled Sanderson out of the house in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue after the fire broke out around 3:40 a.m.

Paramedics rushed him to hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries.

Police would like to speak to anyone who had contact with Sanderson Tuesday evening and into early Wednesday morning. They say they’ve learned he was in in the area of Main Street between Dufferin Avenue and Selkirk Avenue at that time.

Police describe him as 6 feet (183 centimetres) tall, 150 pounds (68 kilograms), with a thin build, long hair in a ponytail and wearing dark coloured T-shirt and jeans.
