Stubborn ice on Manitoba waterways continues to prompt high water advisories but so far forecasters aren’t reporting any serious flooding.

The province issued a high water advisory for the Assiniboine River from Holland to Portage la Prairie because of the potential for ice jams. Flows on the Portage Diversion remain stable, but persistent ice in Winnipeg on both the Red and Assiniboine River are forcing an increase in flows to the Portage Diversion to limit flows downstream to 2000 cubic feet per second (cfs).

Water levels on sections of the rivers covered in ice are generally two feet higher than areas with open water, the province said.

An ice jam on the Red River at Selkirk has moved slightly but it isn’t causing any serious flooding, the province said.

The Red River crested at Emerson at 37,000 cfs. The James Avenue level in Winnipeg rose 1.4 (42.7 centimetres) to 16.8 feet (5.12 metres) and a flow of 47,000 cfs.
