SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. - Jennifer Jones lead from the opening end Sunday, beating Rachel Homan 7-5 in the women's final at the Champions Cup Grand Slam of Curling event.

Jones opened with the hammer and staked her Winnipeg team to a 2-0 lead after the first end.

Ottawa's Homan responded with a point in the third end, and the two skips alternated deuces with the hammer in the fourth and fifth.

Jones broke the game open in the sixth, scoring three to take a 7-3 lead.

Homan responded with two in the seventh, but Jones had the hammer in the eighth and ran Homan out of rocks for the win.

Reid Carruthers looked to make it a Winnipeg sweep when he faced Toronto's John Epping in the men's final later Sunday.
