Kids brought the courtroom to order Sunday.

Children stepped up to the bench at the Manitoba law courts during the mock trial of Hanzel and Gretel as part of Law Day.

Presenting legal arguments was just one part of the event organized by the Manitoba Bar Association and the Manitoba Justice Department.

"We are a trendsetter in the world with respect to our legislation," said Sofia Mirza with the Manitoba Bar Association.

"Canadian law is something that countries around the world will be inspired by in terms of creating laws with respect to human rights,” said Mirza.

Kids also took in demonstrations of a drug detection dog.

The event celebrated Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The Manitoba Bar Assocation said Law Day is a great opportunity for children to see what working in the courtroom is like, and to better understand the Canadian judicial system.
