Classes at Kildonan-East Collegiate will resume on Wednesday. The school has been closed as it deals with damage from a fire. Students can collect any personal belongings on Tuesday between 9:00 a.m and noon, or 1:00 p.m to 2:30 p.m.

The clean-up continues after a fire in the second floor washroom on Thursday. The fire caused minor damage to the washroom, but extensive smoke damage to the second floor.

The River East Transcona School Division says the second floor, where there are 24 classrooms, will remain closed for about four weeks. The school is converting the library and parts of the cafeteria and gym into temporary classrooms for students. It also plans to move portable classrooms onto school property for use as early as Wednesday.

The gym will not be available for use by non-school groups until Oct.26.

Police suspect the fire was deliberately set. Damage is estimated at $500,000.

People who were slated to vote at the location on Oct. 22 can now go to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 700 London Street. The city plans to add extra signage to make sure voters go to the correct location. More information on where to vote is on the city's website.
