The provincial government is inviting Manitoba food entrepreneurs to take a bite out of the competition for a chance to take their products to a global market.

Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler announced plans Thursday for the 10th annual Great Manitoba Food Fight. The competition lets Manitoba foodies interested in commercializing their products pitch their ideas for a chance to win product development funds.

“We know our province is home to tasty, unique foods and beverages that are ready to take the next step toward commercialization and the larger marketplace,” Eichler said.

“This competition is designed to help Manitobans take the next step forward with their food-based businesses.”

A judging panel will award three product development and service awards valued at $3,500, $7,000 and $10,000.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 19. Ten submissions will be chosen to compete at the event held on Sept. 21 at De Luca’s Specialty Foods Store.
