The Annual RBC Homeownership Poll says close to 60 per cent of Manitobans believe it's a good idea to wait a year to purchase a home.

The results show potential buyers want to hold off to see if the market slows down, and in that time they can save more money for a down payment.

"It's a good thing," said Richard Schwan, the regional vice-president of career sales for RBC.

"We like to see that the home buyers are taking their time and taking a look at their entire financial picture,” he said.

This statistic surprised long time realtor Ralph Fyfe.

He said there's no better time to buy a home in Winnipeg than now.

"Every dollar you spend on rent is money you basically flush," Fyfe said.

He said supply is up in the city and he's seeing fewer multiple-offer situations.

"It just means vendors and sellers have to be a little bit more sharper with their pencil when setting their list price," he said.

Which is a good signs for buyers, Fyfe believes, along with low-interest rates on mortgages.

The poll also shows 27 per cent of residents are hoping to invest in real estate within the next two years, which is up from 21 per cent last year.
