A Thunder Bay man is facing charges after police received complaints of two men impersonating undercover police officers.

Police said they launched an investigation after several people were approached between Sept. 14 and 18 by men posing as officers while in the Winnipeg, Brandon and Manitoba areas.

According to police, the men went up to people and said they were involved in an investigation and that they were a potential suspect.

The suspects seized valuables like wallets, cash and credit cards, police said.

William Edward Thomas, 36, from Thunder Bay, Ont. was arrested in the Brandon area.

Thomas has since been charged with 43 offences including personating a police office, extortion and theft.

Police said a second suspect, Matthew Adam Bartel, 34, is wanted by police. He shouldn’t be approached if spotted.

Anyone with information about Bartel’s whereabouts is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477
