One man is facing second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a 27-year-old Winnipeg woman.

Members of Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service were called to an address in the 500 block of Burnell Street around 7 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2014.

A woman, identified as Jenna Marsden, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police were notified of the incident and went to hospital.

At the hospital, the woman’s common-law husband was arrested without incident.

The investigation found the couple and their two children went to the Burnell Street residence the previous day to visit family.

Overnight, an argument started and the woman sustained severe injuries to her upper body.

Two days later she died.

Erwin John Spence, 25, of Winnipeg was initially charged with aggravated assault but after consultation with the Crown, homicide detectives charged him with second-degree murder.

He remains in custody.
