Most Canadians can’t see what goes on inside court rooms unless they go to court themselves because cameras are not allowed in most court proceedings. That could soon change.

On Tuesday, details will be unveiled about a pilot project allowing cameras into the courtroom.

Media outlets will be allowed to show you the decision in a second-degree murder case before the court of Queen’s Bench. Then, a week later, cameras will be allowed into an appeal into a first-degree murder conviction at the Manitoba Court of Appeal.

Justice officials say courts are supposed to be open to the public, but few people have the opportunity to attend in-person.

Cameras will then help to fulfill the open court principle.
