Manitoba Hydro says they are trying to reach protesters and community leaders to try and resolve a blockade set up by a First Nation in central Manitoba.

A transmission line for Manitoba Hydro's Bipole 3 is planned to cross Sapotaweyak Cree Nation between The Pas and Swan River.

On Saturday, the First Nation set up an occupation over a portion of the path of trees that needs to be cleared for the project to go ahead.

The First Nation says it wants to halt work until the provincial government consults with them.

Manitoba Hydro says they are continuing to assess the situation but clear-clearing in the area is continuing where possible.

The First Nation applied for an injunction to delay work on the line in December but a judge denied the request.
