A puppy who received emergency surgery after his legs were crushed by a car is walking again.

And that’s not all – Mittens, a Corgi-Sheltie mix, is also looking for a new home to strut his stuff.

In December, five-month-old Mittens was turned over to a veterinarian in Thompson, Man., after his hind legs and feet were crushed by a car.

Mittens was transferred to the Winnipeg Humane Society, and received emergency surgery on Dec. 15 to amputate his severely-infected right hind leg.

Humane society spokesman Kyle Jahns told CTV at the time that Mittens’ left leg is in good enough shape that it wasn’t amputated, but said dog will need a metal prosthetic left hind foot.

“The surgery went well,” Jahns added. “He’s now recovering and will be going into a foster home tonight where he’ll get some love and support.”

On Friday, the humane society posted on Facebook the adorable pup is now up for adoption.

“Mittens is a specific dog and will require the right kind of family to care for him,” the post states. “Mittens will need a family that is comfortable with putting his new foot on while he's outside and taking it off while he's inside.”

The WHS is also asking potential adopters to keep the pup active, and requires Mittens to be in a home where children are 16 or older.

Anyone interested in adopting Mittens is asked to visit the humane society and speak to staff.

The animal welfare agency points out that it has three to four animals requiring major orthopedic surgery each month, and relies on donations to cover the costs.
