Manitoba is ramping up its fight against zebra mussels as the invasive species has popped up in another Manitoba waterway.

Fauna is a detection dog who helps natural resource officers sniff out mussels that attach themselves to boats.

The province said there are now six decontamination units deployed to the Emerson and Boissevain border crossings and the Selkirk Park and Pine Falls boat launches.

This week alone, they've inspected more than 200 watercraft and decontaminated eight.

The province said zebra mussels have recently been found in the Red River near Selkirk Park.
