The province's health minister is calling for a large national clinical trial of the liberation treatment.

That procedure is said by some to clear blocked veins in the neck and spines of MS patients.

Health Minister Theresa Oswald said the larger the clinical trial, the more confidence patients can have in the results.

Oswald is hoping scientists from the U.S. and Canada will discuss the suggestion next Thursday at a meeting for the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

Oswald also wants it at the top of the agenda at the annual health ministers' meeting in September.

The MS Society said it welcomed the Manitoba's government interest in advancing the research and said it hoped the society's own research will also be helpful.
