A candlelight memorial honoured Manitoba’s role in both world wars on Wednesday evening.

Hundreds gathered at the Field of Honour in Brookside Cemetery for the ceremony. Flameless candles lit the graves of nearly 11,000 men and women who served in the Canadian Forces.

Brookside’s military Field of Honour is one of Canada’s oldest and largest interment sites for military.

It’s location in Winnipeg was chosen because Manitoba sent the highest number of volunteers to both World Wars.

The ceremony commemorated the 75th anniversary of Canada’s entry into the Second World War, and the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War.
