A new study by BMO InvestorLine says couples in the Prairies plan on spending the most on their weddings, compared to couples in other parts of Canada.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents plan on spending an average of $27,239 on 135 guests, compared to the national average of $14,761 for 100 guests.

Couples in Quebec said they plan to spend the least at $8,448 on 77 guests.

Winnipeg wedding planner Amanda Douglas said one reason could be Manitobans may want to spend more is because of socials, the event that invites friends and family to help cover costs of a wedding by attending a party in advance.

She said couples in Manitoba also get a lot of support for their families.

But the study says not all the couples will have the wedding they want.

The study said 40 per cent of respondents who saw themselves getting married one day felt they would not be able to afford their ideal wedding.
