The Canada Games Council awarded Manitoba the Centennial Cup for showing the greatest improvement throughout the Canada Summer Games at a media conference Sunday morning.

Sport Manitoba said the province has won the cup six times since it was first introduced in 1971. Manitoba has received the cup more than any other province or territory.

"This is an incredible honour and a tribute to the dedication our athletes and coaches have put into their sports in preparation for Canada Summer Games," said Manitoba Chef De Mission, Barry Moroz.

Sport Manitoba said new provincial records were set this year for total medals won and gold medals won in the Canada Summer Games. Team Manitoba won 42 medals overall.

The Investors Group Field housed the closing ceremonies Sunday afternoon led by flag-bearer Maddy Mitchell for Team Manitoba.
