A Manitoba couple caught a doubly rare sight on camera thanks to their first batch of locally raised eggs.

Gill Smith and Mike Dmytriw own an acreage just east of Minnedosa, and decided to buy some chickens in mid-April to lay their own supply of eggs.

Smith said the flock began laying last Wednesday and by Friday, she knew she had a rarity amid the first few batches.

“My husband was working out of town, so I called him to say, ‘We have this huge egg. I think there might be another egg in it,’” Smith said by phone Wednesday.

Smith waited until her husband was home to film her cracking the mystery egg, which revealed two yolks and another small egg inside.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Smith said. “I had the eggs for breakfast the next day. They were delicious.”
