Manitobans remembered women who were victims of violence Tuesday morning in a sunrise ceremony at 8 a.m.

The memorial at the Manitoba legislature marked Canada's National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

It coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the murder of 14 women at école Polytechnique in Montreal because of their gender and career choice.

Candles were lit for each of the 14 victims.

Those who work to end violence against women say it's important for Canadians to remember.
