Winnipeg police have reopened Mayfair Avenue, after an unexploded artillery shell was located, closing the road down Tuesday.

The shell was uncovered during construction on the 100 block of Mayfair Avenue at 10:50 a.m., and as a result Main Street and Harkness Avenue were closed until mid-afternoon.

Police said with help from the Canadian Military they were able to remove and transport the military shell safely out of the area.

Mayfair Avenue is now opened to the public.
