Winnipeg will soon have a new CAO.

Mayor Brian Bowman announced Doug McNeil has been selected for the job.

McNeil is a deputy minister with the provincial government in the infrastructure department. He also worked for the city, leading the flood-fighting efforts in 1997.

The city has been without a permanent CAO since 2013 when Phil Sheegl resigned in during the fire hall and police headquarter scandals.

Sheegl's temporary replacement, Deepak Joshi, quit last month, after Mayor Bowman suspended him because he'd lost confidence in the acting CAO.

If approved by council, McNeil will start April 7.
