The Forks hopes you'll weigh in on its plans for a big plot of vacant land.

They held the first of two open houses Wednesday night to gather public input on a large development proposal.

The Forks wants to turn nearly 12 acres by the rail side and on Parcel Four into parks, plazas, promenades and parking spots.

City council approved the preliminary proposal last week.

Some people like the changes, but others say the plan over develops the area.

That’s exactly the feedback Forks staff want to hear.

"We'll take all of the feedback we get and we'll incorporate that into the plans as we move forward,” said Clare MacKay, vice-president of The Forks North Portage Partnership.

“Within the next six months, we would like to be out with design guidelines. We have archeology that we need to take care of. We have green initiatives that we'd like to incorporate into this. So we need to start doing some of the legwork."

The next open house is Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at The Forks centre court. You can submit feedback online at theforks.com/railside.
