RCMP are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl in Pinawa.

It happened Thursday morning at the Wilderness Edge Resort.

Police said the girl, from Blairmore, Alta., was playing inside a building when she ran past a portable room partition.

RMCP said the partition tipped over due to the weight of metal shelving racks that were leaning up against it.

The partition and the shelving landed on the girl. She was pronounced dead on scene.

Police said the girl was being supervised and foul play is not suspected.

“It’s just horrible,” said Wilderness Edge Resort interim manager Kevin Penner in a phone call with CTV News.

He said there were two groups at the resort for a conference. One was a worship conference and one was a tourism conference.

Penner said the child who died was with the group from the worship conference.

“A very random bizarre accident,” he said.

Penner said some of the staff have been deeply affected by the death, and wanted to take some time away from work.
