Manitoba's first spring flood outlook is a bit of a mixed bag.

Flood officials say there is a normal to above normal chance for overland flooding along the Assiniboine and Souris rivers.

Water content in the snow and higher than normal soil moisture amounts are contributing factors.

But officials say if weather conditions remain favourable, homes should be protected for the most part because of past flood-proofing efforts.

The Red River Valley's outlook is much better. The overland flooding potential there is below normal.

It's not yet known if the Portage Diversion or Red River Floodway will need to be used this year.

There is also a chance for localized flooding in some areas of the province due to ice jams.
