The man accused of sending a bomb to a Winnipeg law office wants a bail appeal heard by an out-of-province judge.

Guido Amsel has been denied bail and wants a review of that decision by a higher court.

But first, Amsel's lawyer Martin Glazer is asking a court to appoint an Ontario or Saskatchewan judge for the hearing.

Amsel, 49, was arrested in early July after bombs were sent to his former wife's workplace and the offices of lawyers who had represented Amsel and his wife in their divorce. Police said that in each case an explosive compound was inserted into a recording device.

Lawyer Maria Mitousis was severely injured when the bomb sent to her office exploded, losing a hand.

Glazer argues there is a perceived conflict of interest because most judges in Winnipeg know Mitousis and other lawyers who may have been alleged targets.
