A man who managed to escape a house fire on Thursday now faces a charge of arson.

Emergency crews responded to a call about a fire at a residence in the 500 block of Langside Street around 1:20 a.m.

One lone male tenant was able to escape with the help of firefighters.

At the time, police said they considered the fire suspicious. They have now laid charges against the lone male occupant.

Gaelan Campbell Seames Melvin, 26, faces a charge of arson causing damage to property. Damage from the fire is estimated at $70,000.
