Arson sparked blaze that hit piece of Winnipeg music history on Bannatyne

Arson caused a fire that ripped through the vacant Bannatyne Apartments building in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg police said an investigation from the Office of the Fire Commissioner confirmed the fire on May 10 started as a result of arson.

Guess Who member Kurt Winter previously lived in the building before joining the band. It’s featured on the group’s 1971 album cover.

Damage from the fire is pegged at $2.4 million.
