The attorney general's office in Manitoba says it acted in good faith and followed accepted procedures during the investigation and prosecution of a man charged in a girl's murder.

The statement of defence counters a multimillion-dollar lawsuit launched by Kyle Unger, who spent 14 years in prison for the 1990 death of Brigitte Grenier before he was eventually cleared.

Unger -- now 43 -- alleges he was tricked into making a false confession by undercover officers, but the attorney general says he was convicted largely on repeated confessions made to officers in a sting operation.

No court date has been set to hear the lawsuit.
