Reece Jensen visits the St. Vital Skate Park with his younger brother almost every day.

But on Monday, he wasn’t there, and that's when Jensen said a small group of teens confronted his brother and a friend.

"Some guys threatened him with a pellet gun, and said if you don't give us your bikes, we'll shoot you," said Jensen.

He called the skate park at St. Anne’s Road and Meadowood Drive a safe place, where most kids know each other.

Jensen said he and his brother are shocked.

"He was pretty freaked out, I mean he called my mom crying and stuff, he was pretty upset,” Jensen told CTV News.

Skateboarder safety is a concern this July, after a teen got stabbed in the back at The Forks skate park Canada Day.

Police said skate parks aren't statistically more dangerous, but the incident has some in St. Vital concerned.

"I think it's just kids being jerks honestly, but I am still concerned, now hearing about this, I am concerned for my cousin," said Madison Ennis-George, who came to the skate park with her younger cousin Wednesday evening.

On the same day these bikes were allegedly taken, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a public advisory.

It said, with more people out during the summer months, stay alert and trust your instinct if you feel uncomfortable.

It also advised to stay in groups, in well-lit, well-traveled areas.

"We want to make sure everybody acts safely, acts in a way that's going to minimize the situation. Give up whatever is being asked for, try and get some distance," said Constable Rob Carver.

Const. Carver said the boys did the right thing by giving the group their bikes, and it seems at least one bike is already back with its rightful owner.

According to Reece Jensen, "they took his bike, but they didn't leave here, like (they said) you can just keep your bike or whatever because it's too small."

Police continue to investigate the incident and look for suspects.

So far no charges have been laid.
