A carjacking that started in Selkirk ended with the suspect ditching the vehicle after crashing it in Winnipeg.

RCMP said a male suspect threatened a motorist in Selkirk with a knife, stealing a delivery car around 2:30 a.m. April 24.

RCMP officers pursued the vehicle down Highway 9 toward Winnipeg.  Winnipeg police were contacted about the pursuit when the vehicle approached Winnipeg. 

Around 3 a.m, the vehicle crossed the median on Main Street in Winnipeg, near Kildonan Park and hit two hydro poles, said RCMP.

The suspect ran away. 

RCMP, city officers and the canine unit searched Kildonan Park and the adjacent golf course, but didn’t find the suspect. 

Officers continue to search for the suspect.
