Despite a recent assault, a North End activist continues his fight to make his neighbourhood safer.

The crowd was fired up Friday night at Meet Me at the Bell Tower. The weekly gathering, meant as a rally to stop violence in the area and get to know neighbours, marked its three-year anniversary.

Though founder Michael Champagne had a safety scare this week when he was attacked nearby, he was back up and at it to lead the movement against violence.

"There are many, many, many young people in this community and many, many residents in this community who believe that if we work together, and we lead by example, we truly can stop violence," said Champagne.

Meet Me at the Bell Tower happens every Friday at 6 p.m. at Selkirk Avenue and Powers Street.
