A $400-million mega-development for Downtown Winnipeg is still alive.

CTV has confirmed CentreVenture has extended a deadline with True North to finalize a deal for the former Carlton Inn site to May 15. That deal was set to expire.

True North wants to build a hotel, housing, commercial and retail towers, along with a public plaza, near the MTS Centre. The Carlton property is included in the proposal.

Winnipeg Jets Owner Mark Chipman put the deal on hold after he felt Mayor Brian Bowman was criticizing his efforts.

Bowman described CentreVenture's dealings with the property as secretive even though the Mayor had seen a video of the proposal last year.
