After three days in court, there’s still no decision on whether Guido Amsel will get bail.

Amsel, 49, faces more than a dozen charges, including three attempted-murder charges, after letter bombs were sent to three Winnipeg businesses in early July.

One exploded at the Petersen King law office on July 3, seriously injuring lawyer Maria Mitousis.

A day later, a bomb addressed to Amsel’s ex-wife was detonated by the bomb squad at a Washington Avenue auto body shop.

On July 5, police found a third bomb at the Orle Bargen Davidson law office. It was addressed to lawyer George Orle, who said he worked very peripherally on a civil suit between Amsel and his ex-wife.

On Friday, Amsel arrived in court wearing the same navy suit, white shirt and red tie that he wore during the first two parts of the bail hearing.

At one point, Amsel mouthed hello to his family and supporters sitting in the front row. Amsel’s wife could be heard crying during part of the hearing.

Family friend, Frank Outlak, spoke briefly with the media after the bail hearing wrapped Friday.

“(The family is) just waiting for him to come home and they're just missing him so badly," said Outlak.

Both the Crown and defence have now finished their submissions.

Justice Heather Pullan scheduled a date for next Wednesday to announce her decision whether or not Amsel will get bail.

This comes after one full day, and two half days, in court already.

Details of the bail hearing are under a publication ban, meaning nothing said in court can be discussed in the media; however Amsel’s lawyer, Martin Glazer, said he’s asking for rigid bail conditions.

“It's probably the strictest bail plan in Manitoba history designed to protect the public and at the same time to allow my client to be out on bail and prepare his defence," said Glazer outside court Friday morning.
