The venue, the shoes and the flowers are all picked out for Maricar Evan's dream wedding.

"Just a relaxed wedding in Mexico with all our friends and family and just go and not have to worry about planning," said Evan.

Her and fiancée Tanner Irwin were getting ready for July 21 to be the happiest day of their lives, until plans changed last Friday.

"It was probably the worst day of my life," said Evan.

Tanner was critically hurt while riding his motorcycle. Hit head on by car that drifted from its lane on Highway 330 near La Salle.

"I heard this crunch and then there were like a million pieces. It was like an explosion," said Marlon Evan, Maricar’s brother, who was riding with Tanner that night.

Tanner is now in hospital facing several surgeries, so the couple recently tried to postpone the trip, which only led to more struggles.

"We're not asking for our money back, we're not asking for a full refund, we just want to change the date and they wouldn't allow it,” said the future bride.

The Air Canada Vacation package for 40 people was booked through Marlin Travel.

"Trying to go through this experience with Air Canada and Marlin Travel has been excruciatingly painful," said Marlon.

Air Canada says they do not give refunds when cancellations are made within 20 days of departure, which is why the suggest passengers buy travel insurance.

Marlon, along with many other wedding guests, say they did purchase third party insurance through Marlin Travel.

But they say the insurance provider has told them only Tanner's immediate family will get all their money back because he was the one injured and the others either have to forfeit half of what they paid or go on the trip.

"People are forced to go on this trip because they are going to be out the money and they are going to celebrate it without us being there. So it's tough," said Maricar, with tears in her eyes.

Despite the frustration, the couple plans to get married at a different venue. They plan to tie the knot in hospital this weekend.
