The Canadian Centre for Child Protection has launched two educational modules to combat cyberbullying amongst teens.

The two modules are designed for grades seven through 10 and come with activity books called What’s the Big Deal and It is a Big Deal.

One hundred thousand copies of these books will be offered for free to middle and high schools across Canada.

The Grades 7/8 module focuses on reducing online sexual exploitation and the Grades 9/10 module has an emphasis on addressing sexual violence between peer groups and also older teens or adults.

Laureen Harper and Leah Parsons, mother of cyberbullying victim Rehtaeh Parsons, were both on hand for Wednesday’s announcement in Winnipeg.

"As a mom of teenagers, I worry about how young people today are coping with the growing problem of cyberbullying," said Harper. "It is comforting to know that teachers across Canada will have access to these new resources to help them in their efforts to create safer environments for our children."

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection's tip line, Cybertip.ca has seen a large increase in reports from youth about sexual images being distributed online as a form of bullying.
