Manitoba Health said the first case this year of West Nile virus in the province has been confirmed.

“The individual is a female in her 50s from the Southern Health–Santé Sud region, who did not experience neurological symptoms and was not hospitalized. She is believed to have been exposed during the week of July 26. The investigation is ongoing,” said Manitoba Health in a statement.

The province said the current risk for human exposure is estimated to be low.
