Some food truck owners in Winnipeg say a new permit fee is unfair.

As of Wednesday, food trucks will be charged an annual fee between $866 and $3,386 to park on the street. The amount depends on the length of the truck and whether the area is a low or high demand zone.

The city says the permit simply offsets what food truck operators have been paying in the past for parking.

But The Manitoba Food Truck Association says not all owners run for a full season so they’re being charged more than before. The association says it would be happy with a monthly permit fee instead.

City council has already passed the new measure.
