Family and friends gathered to say goodbye to long-time NDP MLA Conrado Santos. He passed away at the Victoria General Hospital Monday, Feb. 29.

Santos came to Manitoba in 1965 after studying at Harvard to teach politics at the University of Manitoba. He was born in 1934 in the Philippines.

Santos was an MLA for more than 20 years, representing the constituency of Broadway and Wellington.

“He pursued politics to help people,” his daughter Evelyn Santos told CTV Sunday. “He really wanted to help people.”

Santos said what she’ll miss most about him is “his sense of humour and laughing with him.”
