People looking to help Syrian refugees now have a new resource to find information.

The Manitoba government, along with the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization and the Canadian Red Cross, created a help line for people looking for information.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 Syrian refugees are expected to arrive in Manitoba in early December.

Initially, the government will house them in Winnipeg, close to settlement services. An emergency planning centre normally used during spring floods will organize support programs for Syrian refugees coming to Manitoba.

The government is also asking landlords for available rental units.

Options for resettlement throughout the region will be explored later. Refugees with private sponsors will go to the community where their sponsor lives.

Premier Greg Selinger set aside $1.4 million in September for refugee support.

Anyone looking for information on how to help with the resettlement can call 1-888-662-3211 (toll-free) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
