The Manitoba Liberal Party is focusing on Lake Winnipeg ahead of the provincial election on April 19.

They said they will put a minister in charge of the health of the lake.

“Manitoba has some of the most beautiful lakes and rivers in the world and we need to start taking concrete steps to protect them or the next generation will not be able to enjoy them,” said Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari.

The Liberals said they would work to eliminate phosphorous from all soaps including industrial-use soaps and detergents, which are presently exempt from the Phosphorous Reduction Act.

As well, the Liberals said they would mimic legislations passed in the U.S. regarding banning micro beads from all products sold in the province.
