A Winnipeg man who killed his roommate before dismembering him and hiding the body parts around the city has been sentenced to 15 years.

Emery McLeod said he and Darin Monias were drinking heavily when they engaged in a wrestling match in their apartment in February 2012.

According to McLeod, he accidentally choked Monias to death and then panicked.

He claims that is why he tried to dispose of the body.

A jury found McLeod guilty of manslaughter.

The judge cited a lack of remorse as part of the reason for the sentence.

With credit for time served, McLeod now has 10 years and 10 months remaining on his sentence.
