Miriam Toews, former winner of Writers' Trust Fiction Prize, on short list again

TORONTO - Toronto novelist Miriam Toews has once again made the short list for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize.

The Steinbach, Man., native, who won the prize for 2008's "The Flying Troutmans," is a finalist for this year's $25,000 award for "All My Puny Sorrows" (Knopf Canada).

The heartbreaking story of a writer dealing with her sister's depression is also on the long list for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

In 2010, Toews also won the Writers' Trust Engel/Findley Award for her body of work.

Other shortlisted authors for this year's Writers' Trust fiction prize include 1998 finalist Andre Alexis of Toronto for "Pastoral" (Coach House Books) and former Governor General's Award nominee Carrie Snyder of Waterloo, Ont., for "Girl Runner" (House of Anansi).

The short list is rounded out by Steven Galloway of New Westminster, B.C. for "The Confabulist" (Knopf Canada) and Toronto's K.D. Miller for "All Saints" (Biblioasis).
