At 2:33 p.m. on Saturday, East St. Paul RCMP and local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a highway collision involving four vehicles.

The multi-vehicle crash happened on Highway 59 at the Garvin Road turnoff, near Birds Hill Provincial Park.

Police said they received a call about an erratic driver, driving the wrong way on the highway. A few minutes after, they received a call regarding the collision.

Further investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

Police confirm alcohol was a factor in the crash. They have not yet released information regarding any injuries but said seatbelts were used by all occupants of the vehicles.

Police said all occupants were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Traffic detours were in effect for the northbound lane and emergency crews remained on scene for hours to help direct vehicles.

The highway re-opened to traffic just after 8:00 p.m.
